Communications Strategy

This project will save us $5,422 , allowing us to to dedicate resources to our programs.

What We Need

  • A review of Organization's communications goals and target audiences
  • Identification of appropriate timeline and implementation approach based on goals and audience
  • Messaging guidelines (with examples) based on audience and delivery methods
  • Outline of necessary steps for implementation

How This Will Help

JerseySTEM provides afterschool prorams to underserved girls in New Jersey.
For that we interact with internal and external stakeholders:
- Students
- Parents
- Host organziation
- Sponsors
- Voluteers
- Local Universities
We have a team of Campaign managers, Content producers and channel managers that are volunteering to help and we need to articulate a communication strategy/plan to ensure they are all aligned.

What We Have In Place

We currently have a team of volunteers and committed board which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have a mission and vision and the ability to provide any other information you need.

Project Steps

  • Prep: Project Goals, Timeline, and Process Established and Initial Information Distributed
    • Volunteer Manager outlines any current communications activities and strategies
    • Volunteer Manager shares any existing communications materials
    • Volunteer Manager shares the perceived strengths and weakness of existing communications plan and materials
    • Professional connects with the Volunteer Manager for a brainstorming/overview session, to discuss goals, target audiences, and existing activities/materials
    • Professional and Volunteer Manager outline next steps and timeline for the project
  • Milestone 1: Professional Creates First Draft of the Communications Strategy and Volunteer Manager Provides Feedback
    • Professional creates a first draft of the Communications Strategy and shares it with the Volunteer Manager
    • Volunteer Manager reviews draft of the Communications Strategy, and provides feedback to the Professional
  • Milestone 2: Finalized Communications Strategy Delivered to the Organization
    • Professional incorporates Volunteer Manager’s feedback and creates a final draft of the Communications Strategy
    • Professional delivers final strategy to the Organization and provides recommendations for the Organization on implementation, based on staff capacity and budget
Prerequisites for Professional
  • Experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field
  • Understanding of communications planning
Prerequisites for Organization
  • Clear goals for your communications efforts, and an understanding of your desired audiences
  • An understanding of the staff capacity and budget (if any) that you can dedicate to communications
  • Clear brand messaging in place that can be used in your communications
  • Staff member ready to prioritize this project

JerseySTEM is a network co-op of parents, professionals, students and educators whose goal is to promote excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (“STEM”) education. We are dedicated to partnering with local schools and other organizations to create and enhance STEM-oriented educational opportunities as part of students' paths towards college and career readiness, and to develop effective STEM programs and initiatives that engage students and educators. JerseySTEM is also committed to bridging the gender gap in STEM education and sharing STEM-related opportunities with underprivileged students and communities.
