Project details

What we need
  • Review of current board policies and procedures
  • Documents that establish strong governance practices
  • New or revised policies that clearly define the role of the board and its relationship to the Organization
What we have in place
  • We have bylaws, a conflict of interest statement and a whistleblower policy already in place.
How this will help
This project will save us $7,610 , allowing us to to provide care to over 25 children and provide parenting classes to help provide future stability.

As a new organization we have been working with a founders board with no clear guidelines. By having policies and procedures it will help us attract new board members from our community. Having new members from our community allows us fresh ideas, more governance and more presence allowing for more fundraising opportunities as well. All things needed for the future of our organization and allowing it to move forward.

Our mission

Mission

Pinwheel Place will provide a safe place for children in crisis. We will provide residential care and coordinate medical and/or psychological services according to the needs of the child. We will service primarily children from birth to five years old.

What we do

Pinwheel Place will provide a safe haven for children in crisis. We will provide residential care and coordinate medical and psychological services according to the needs of the child. We will service children from birth to five years of age who are referred from local agencies or by their parents. Most groups working with those in crisis realize that the devastation resulting from these factors impacts individuals, families and often whole communities for generations. Food insecurity, homelessness, inability to access health services and threats of emotional trauma are moment to moment concerns. If we are to help children deal with these issues we need to know that any kind of development will not happen while you are still in crisis, so for any intervention to be effective it has to address safety and well being first. The children will come to us because they are not safe, so first and foremost we will be a crisis shelter for children at risk. A plan of service will be developed for both the child and the parents. We will work with local agencies to provide services for the parents so they can reduce the risk factors that could cause the abuse and neglect in the future. The children will stay as long as needed.
