Our mission

The mission of Covenant House New Jersey (CHNJ), a registered 501(c)(3) organization, is to provide housing and supportive services with absolute respect and unconditional love regardless of race, creed, religion, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability status to youth ages 18-24 experiencing homelessness. We combine comprehensive support services with a progressive continuum of housing options for our youth.
CHNJ is guided by five principles:
1. Immediacy - Immediately meet the basic needs of youth facing homelessness through a nourishing meal, a shower, clean clothes, medical attention, and a safe place to sleep.
2. Sanctuary - Provide safety from the hardships of homelessness. We recognize the fundamental worth of every human being and create a safe setting where all youth are served without judgment.
3. Value Communication - Lead by example to demonstrate that caring relationships are based on love, trust, respect, and honesty.
4. Structure - Provide the stability and structure necessary to build a positive future.
5. Choice - Foster confidence; encouraging young people to believe in themselves and make informed choices for their lives.

What we do

Covenant House New Jersey

Covenant House New Jersey provides comprehensive residential care and related services to help New Jersey's youth who have suffered from abuse, neglect, abandonment, homelessness, and human trafficking build a life for themselves that is good.

We journey with our young people from the streets, to our Residential Crisis Centers, to our transitional living homes, and on to independent living in the community to help them break the cycle of homelessness and poverty.

Online Research Project

Covenant House's staff was a pleasure to work with. They provided plenty of detail about the technical issues they were trying to solve and were flexible and open with their communication.
