Membership Strategy
Membership Strategy
Project details
What we need
- A Membership Strategy document of 2-4 pages, including analysis of the Organization’s current membership program, step-by-step guide to a new or improved program, growth goals and creative outreach strategies
Additional details
The LRWP formed in 2014 to address industrial pollutants that left a legacy of contamination in central New Jersey's Raritan River and the Lower Raritan Watershed. We also work to address coastal and stormwater flooding, and are shaping a regional watershed resilience plan. Most of our work is done in partnership with community members - we seek to "cultivate a culture of science and stewardship" in our low socioeconomic, mostly immigrant communities, and engage K-grey in civic science water quality monitoring and resilience planning. We wish to formally engage these folks as members of our organization.
What we have in place
- We have no staff, but are run by a motivated board. We are bringing on new board members in January, and feel it is the perfect time to define a membership structure.
How this will help
This project will save us $5,848 , allowing us to conduct direct community outreach to primarily low socio-economic and immigrant (Spanish-speaking) communities.
A defined membership will give us access to advocates ready to press for land use changes and policies that can save lives in the face of environmental degradation, sea level rise and climate change. Having a stable of folks who can help disseminate information is a way to build resilience when faced with flooding and contaminant emergencies. Having a defined membership will also allow us to better tailor our outreach efforts, and will assist us in communicating our demographic to potential funders.

Our mission
The mission of the Lower Raritan Watershed Partnership (LRWP) is to restore, enhance, and conserve, the natural resources of "New Jersey Watershed Management Area 9" (the Lower Raritan Watershed) through science-based stewardship, education and innovation.
