Facilitated Strategy Session
Facilitated Strategy Session
Project details
What we need
- Facilitation of an intensive, strategic planning session on Sunday, March 2 (9am-2pm) with up to 50 Media Consortium stakeholders in Chicago. Stakeholders include members of the Consortium as well as allies--these people are all leaders of their own organizations (publishers, executive directors, etc).
- The current plan for Sunday is to have breakout sessions from 9:00-11:00, followed by directed facilitation from 11:00-12:00. We will end with lunch (which may or may not feature continued conversation).
- The aim of the facilitated conversation is for Media Consortium stakeholders to reach consensus on our future direction.
- Ideally, the facilitator will review materials we have created for the planning session, attend one teleconference beforehand with the strategic planning team, and if at all possible attend the first part of the strategic planning event on Saturday, March 1 from 2pm-5pm.
What we have in place
- We currently have created a strategic planning process and team, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have the ability to pay for your travel/hotel, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,465 , allowing us to fund 10 journalists at different outlets collaborating on high-impact projects.
Our mission is to support and grow the impact of the independent news media sector. Our 70 member outlets (Mother Jones, Truthout, Young Turks, etc) tell us we are indispensable, but can't support us with their dues. Funders aren't clear about our unique value. Meanwhile, 8 other associations have a similar mission. As a consortium, we need to understand if our network has a unique value. The answer will determine if we fold, merge, or find a new way forward.
Project plan
Our mission
The Media Consortium is a network of independent news organizations. Our mission is to support and grow the independent news sector.
What we do
The Media Consortium supports our members by offering:
*an annual meeting where members can network and learn from each other and invited speakers
*Innovation and Incubation labs that provide hands-on learning around new technology and business practices
*cross-promotion via social media feeds and a social media listserv
The Media Consortium grows the impact of our members by:
*organizing editorial collaborations around topics that have been underrepported in corporate media (for example, media policy, reproductive justice, extreme energy)
*educating reporters in underreported policy areas via regular briefings
*creating links between our members and members of other organizations in the independent media sector
